Where this record sits
This London list is the City of London and the 32 London boroughs, including Croydon, Bromley, Ealing and Harrow. Slough, Watford, Reading and Luton are not added to it.
Victorian and Edwardian terraces, mansion blocks and converted flats are common, so access, parking and how waste leaves the street often sit beside the labour.
Qualifications on the record
TrustMark is a government-endorsed scheme for home trades. The name is on this page because it is on the record.
Local Trades UK does not award this scheme and does not guarantee the work. The name above opens that scheme's own search. This site does not run the search and does not pass the job on.
How to read a price for this kind of work
Plastering
A plastering price should say whether it includes the board, the skim and the time before the wall can be painted. This site does not price the job.
Painting & Decorating
Preparation, the number of coats and access move a decorating price more than the paint itself. Ask what the first figure leaves out. This site does not price the job.
What to ask before you phone
When you phone W.J. MCKENNA LTD., use this record as the starting point: 29 Queen Annes Garden, Bush Hill Park, Enfield, Middlesex, EN1 2JH. Ask whether they will visit your postcode, then ask the questions that match the work.
Plastering
Ask what has to be ready before the plasterer arrives, and when the wall can be painted.
Skimming a wall that is still damp, or render on a listed front, can be the wrong next step. This list does not diagnose the wall.
- Is this a skim, new board, or render?
- What has to be dry and ready before you arrive?
- When can the wall be painted?
- Is the board included, or only the labour?
Painting & Decorating
Ask how much preparation is in the price. The coats are rarely the whole job.
Painting the outside of a listed building, or a house in a conservation area, can need consent even when the job looks like decoration. The record does not grant that consent.
- How much preparation is in the price?
- How many coats, and is the work inside, outside, or both?
- Is access or scaffolding extra?
- What does the first figure leave out?
