Grants

Whether the Warm Homes Local Grant can pay for the work.

In England, an eligible private home can ask the council for energy-saving work. The council has to have funding left, and it chooses the measures after a survey. This directory does not take the application.

Checked 13 October 2026 on GOV.UK. Wales, Scotland, Northern Ireland and the Malta directory use other routes.

Eligibility on the public page is not a promise that your council still has money this month. The survey, and the work, come from the council.

Who the public page says can apply

The page Apply for the Warm Homes: Local Grant says the scheme is only available in England. To be eligible, the home must be privately owned, by you or by your landlord, and have an Energy Performance Certificate of D, E, F or G. If you do not know the certificate, the same page says you can find it when you apply.

Household income must usually be £36,000 a year or less. The page says a higher income can still qualify if you live in a certain postcode area, or if someone in the household gets certain benefits. Those tests sit on the application. They are not something this site can check.

If you are eligible and the council has funding, the council arranges a home survey and then organises and pays for the improvement work it has agreed. The page says you will not need to pay for that agreed work. If you have a landlord, the landlord may need to pay for some of the improvements. The council usually contacts you within 10 working days.

What the council might suggest

The same page gives examples the survey might suggest: wall, loft and underfloor insulation, an air-source heat pump, smart controls, and solar panels. The survey decides. A business you find on this site is not appointed by that application.

Local-authority policy guidance updated on 2 July 2026 says the delivery window for the scheme runs to 31 March 2028. That is the programme date for councils. It does not mean every council is still taking households on the day you read this. Use the GOV.UK application, which also publishes a helpline on 0800 098 7950, Monday to Friday 8am to 6pm except bank holidays, and Saturday 9am to 12pm.

A heat pump grant that you arrange with an MCS installer, rather than through the council, is the Boiler Upgrade Scheme. The supplier scheme that is winding down is covered under ECO4 and the Great British Insulation Scheme.
