Day rate to hourly rate calculator.
Type the amounts you were quoted. A day rate is divided by the hours that day is meant to cover. An hourly rate is multiplied out to 8 hours. The page does not set a labour rate.
Published 13 October 2026. Amounts in pounds. The hours box starts at 8.

Assumptions, units and limits
The first amount is required. Leave the second amount empty if you only want one quote turned into an hourly figure. The hours box starts at 8, which is the full day this page uses for the comparison line. For a day rate, change the hours if that business is counting a different day. For an hourly rate, the hours turn the rate into one day, and the 8-hour line stays at 8 hours.
£280 for an 8-hour day is £35 an hour. £40 an hour is £320 for 8 hours, which is £5 an hour higher than that day rate.
- Dividing a day rate does not create the price of an extra hour. The day rate can include travel or a minimum visit.
- The page does not split a crew rate across people. Type the amount as it was quoted.
- Tick VAT when it is already inside the amount. If the two quotes differ, the result says the gap mixes them. VAT is not removed.
- Each amount is limited to £100,000. Hours run from above 0 to 24.
- Pounds are for the United Kingdom lists. The Malta directory uses euro, so these figures do not apply there.
The rate still comes from the business
Use the hourly line to read two quotes beside each other. Then phone the business yourself and ask what the day includes. There is no account. This site does not pass the job on, does not promise a reply, and does not publish a rate for a trade.
A cost guide says what a published band is made of, with a source and a date. That band is a reference. The quote comes from the business on the list.
Questions about this comparison
Does Local Trades UK set the hourly rate?
No. The page divides the amounts you were quoted. It does not publish a rate for a trade.
Why can two day rates cover different hours?
A day rate is tied to the hours that business is counting. The result shows the quoted amount, the hourly figure, and the cost of 8 hours at that hourly figure, so the two quotes can be read on the same line.
What if one quote includes VAT?
Tick the box when VAT is already in the amount. If one quote includes VAT and the other does not, the result says so. The page does not remove VAT for you.
