The five calculators
- 01 Roof area Roof area calculator, from a plan and a pitch. One rectangle. Length, width and pitch. A cutting allowance is optional, and it is still an area.
- 02 Heating power Heating load calculator from room sizes. Floor area times one of four planning bands, in kilowatts. It is not an MCS heat-loss design.
- 03 Heat pump savings Heat pump savings calculator, on rates you type. Your gas use, your pence per kWh, a boiler efficiency and a heat-pump SPF. No tariff is stored.
- 04 Renovation budget Renovation budget calculator, from figures you type. Low and high pounds, then a contingency and a VAT choice. This site does not fill in the prices.
- 05 Hourly rate Day rate to hourly rate calculator. The amounts you were quoted, per hour and for 8 hours. This site does not set a labour rate.
What to do with a figure
Pick a city and a trade, open the list, and phone, email, or use the website on the record. The lists that are open cover London, Manchester, Birmingham, Leeds and Bristol. Get contact details asks for that city and that trade. The form leaves out your name, your phone number and a description of the job. It does not send the work to anyone, and it does not promise a reply. There is no account.
A qualification is printed only when the record already holds it. On a United Kingdom record that can be Gas Safe, NICEIC, NAPIT, TrustMark or FENSA. Local Trades UK does not award these qualifications and does not guarantee the work.
A cost page and a grant page name a source and the date they were checked. A calculator result is a reference before that conversation. The price comes from the business. A fault that may not need a tradesperson yet is on the maintenance shelf.
Malta is a separate directory, in euro, with phone numbers that use +356. The roof and heating calculators use metres. The pages that add up money use pounds, for the United Kingdom lists. Polish and Romanian entrances open those same United Kingdom lists. You still contact the business yourself. These calculators stay in English.
If a line on a list should be changed or taken down, email support@localtradesuk.com with the business name, the city, the trade and the address of the record.

Do the calculators upload what I type?
No. All five run in the browser. Measurements and rates stay on this device.
Is a result a quote?
No. A result is a figure to read before you ask a business for a price. The price comes from that business. This site does not pass the job on and does not promise a reply.
Do the pound figures apply in Malta?
No. Malta is a separate directory on this site, with prices in euro and phone numbers that use +356. The roof and heating calculators use metres. The pages that add up money use pounds, for the United Kingdom lists.
Do I need an account?
No. Lists, cost pages, grant pages and the five calculators open without a sign-in.
